The Wisconsin Wireless Association (WiWA) was recently honored with its first-ever Outstanding Donor Award for its work to provide specialized emergency lifesaving equipment for children in Wisconsin. During events throughout the year, WiWA raises money for annual donations to The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) which in turn purchases specialized pediatric emergency jump bags (Ped Bag) filled with supplies for all sizes of children.
With the support of WiWA’s donations, GFWC has achieved 99.5% of its goal of providing a Ped Bags to each of Wisconsin’s ambulance departments. The group will now focus on providing the equipment to first responder departments. WiWA has donated $15,000 to date, with a goal to donate an additional $7500 from its 2012 events. The association’s next fundraising event is its Annual Baseball Outing and Fundraiser at the June 5 Milwaukee Brewers-Chicago Cubs game at Miller Park in Milwaukee. In addition, WiWA’s charity work was discussed at the Wisconsin Municipal Treasurer’s conference in April, during which the Wisconsin town of Hudson requested a Ped Bag for its first responders, since the town was not yet equipped with one. The WiWA board has since approved the donation.
WiWA is one of many State Wireless Associations that have designated a charity to which they contribute proceeds from golf events, contributions collected during holiday socials and through other networking events. It is one of many ways in which State Wireless Associations benefit their state and local communities demonstrate the value of the wireless industry to the consumers, businesses and first responders they serve.
