WIA Pushes to Modernize FCC Rules to Allow for Compound Expansion
As a result of WIA’s multi-year effort to streamline the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) wireless infrastructure deployment rules, the FCC is expected to finally vote October 27th to allow for compound expansion under Section 6409 of the SPECTRUM Act.

Earlier today, FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr visited a cell tower owned by WIA member CWS. The visit demonstrated why streamlining the rules for compound expansion is needed to expedite wireless infrastructure deployment, especially for public safety and 5G. WIA Expands Leadership Team to Develop Wireless Workforce
WIA named Dr. Rikin Thakker as Chief Technology Officer, Brent Weil as Vice President, Workforce Development, and Jason Nelson, Vice President, Partnerships and Development. These new leaders will expand WIA’s wireless workforce development efforts to meet members’ staffing needs and extend WIA’s thought leadership and convening role for businesses in the wireless industry.

Celebrate National Apprenticeship Week
National Apprenticeship Week is an annual, national celebration of apprenticeship programs and apprentices. WIA celebrates the industry’s apprentices on social media to maximize visibility of how apprenticeships benefit people, companies, and the industry.
