One of the latest to join PCIA is the UK-based international company Star Net Geomatics.
Star Net Geomatics has developed a method of efficiently recording accurate three dimensional site data whilst reducing the amount of time working at height. Star Net Geomatics collects millimetre accurate data such as equipment location, identification and orientation, structural details, radio frequency levels and geo-referenced panoramic photography which is then delivered to the client on a bespoke web based Asset Management Tool Star Net isite. This service adds further value by allowing the site owner to desktop manage their portfolio, optimise billing opportunities and drastically reduce costly follow on-site visits and ultimately reduce the cost of operations.
Star Net Geomatics announced last June that it has been awarded for innovation at the Global Telecom Business Awards. This award, under the category ‘wireless network infrastructure innovation’, recognises the success of a project Star Net undertook on behalf of its client, Arqiva, which is jointly honoured. Arqiva is a communications infrastructure and media services company which operates at the heart of the broadcast, satellite and mobile communications markets. Its clients include major broadcasters such as the BBC, ITV and Sky as well as the UK’s leading mobile network operators; Vodafone, O2, Orange and T-Mobile.
Commenting, Star Net CEO Douglas Brown said the award is “recognition of the hard work our team have carried out over the past four years. We have developed a service which allows Arqiva to precisely desktop manage their assets in a way never before envisaged.”
Arqiva is using Star Net’s asset management tool, isite which brings the fieldwork of managing infrastructure to the desktop. The process begins with high definition surveying, or laser scanning. This allows the collection of millimetre accurate 3D images of infrastructure such as telecom masts which in turn makes it possible for informed decisions to be made remotely, without the need for further site visits. Clients using Star Net’s tool benefit from improved quality and reliability of site record data, reduced operating costs, reduced downtime and outages and a reduced carbon footprint.
PCIA – The Wireless Infrastructure Association is the trade association representing the companies that make up the wireless telecommunications infrastructure industry. Our members include the carriers, infrastructure providers and professional services firms that own and manage more than 125,000 telecommunications facilities throughout the world.
