2024: WIA’s Year of PROGRESS

If I were to capture 2024 for the Wireless Infrastructure Association (WIA) in one word, it would be PROGRESS. Across the board we are making progress as an association through our essential advocacy efforts, by consistently promoting the importance of wireless infrastructure, and by working to ensure our membership programs, events and industry training programs support all aspects of our members’ businesses. Congress passes “Rip & Replace” funding

Inside Towers – The U.S. Senate passed the $895 billion National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) on Wednesday. The measure that contains language to make up for the more than $3 billion shortfall in the Rip & Replace program is on its way to President Biden for his signature. Read More

Broadband bills included in end-of-Congress legislation

Inside Towers – The recently introduced Further Continuing Appropriations and Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2025 includes several pieces of bipartisan broadband legislation introduced by Senate Commerce Committee members. Read More

JMA reels in $44M from CHIPs and Science Act

Mobile World Live – JMA Wireless scored $43.9 million in federal funding from the CHIPS and Science Act which it plans to use to expand its 5G manufacturing and research operations in the state of New York. Read More

Verizon uses network slicing to enhance video calls

Mobile World Live – Verizon launched enhanced video calling on iPhones by using 5G-Advanced features to enable network slicing to power the service, which improves communications in congested areas. Read More

AT&T mandates employees return to office full-time

Washington Times – AT&T will require its employees to report full-time to their offices five days a week, up from three days weekly, starting in January. The company joins Amazon, Goldman Sachs, Tesla and other companies in ending the hybrid and remote work schedules installed during COVID-19. Read More

Qualcomm announces Dr. Baaziz Achour appointed chief technology officer-elect

Qualcomm – Qualcomm Inc. appointed Dr. Baaziz Achour to the role of chief technology officer of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., and the retirement of Dr. James Thompson, each effective February 3, 2025. Dr. Achour currently serves as deputy chief technology officer. Read More
