Light Reading — Telecom executives have been discussing the possibility of a slowdown in spending on 5G networks for months now. DISH — As of June 14, DISH Wireless is offering 5G broadband service to over 70 percent of the U.S. population, giving more than 240 million Americans access to the very latest in connectivity technology. This marks a major milestone for DISH and the U.S. telecom industry, as we designed, built and deployed a first-of-its-kind 5G network in three years. Read More

AT&T — As part of AT&T’s multiyear strategy to drive sustainable and profitable growth, the company detailed how it will accelerate network innovation, efficiency and structural cost improvement across the largest wireless network in North America. WIA — Several years ago, the NFL’s former VP of Technology Solutions John Cave and his team were looking for a sideline communications system for coaches to use during games. The league had been using TV white spaces to provide wireless communication at least until 2015, but the channels were unreliable and the system actually experienced an ill-timed outage one year during a Super Bowl. Verizon — Verizon and Vertical Bridge have entered into an agreement to build cell towers across the US to expand Verizon’s 4G and 5G Ultra Wideband services. Vertical Bridge has agreed to construct these towers to-suit with Verizon as the anchor tenant. The towers will be held in an LLC formed by Vertical Bridge in which Verizon has a profits interest. Fierce Wireless — Dish Network said it plans a debt offering of about $500 million of its senior secured notes. Proceeds of the offering will be used for general corporate purposes, including the buildout of its 5G wireless network. The notes will be secured by Dish Network assets, the company said in a press release. This latest debt offering from Dish follows a $2 billion debt offering that the company finalized last November. Fierce Wireless — AT&T will launch the “next rendition” of a fixed wireless access (FWA) product in the market later this year. CEO John Stankey mentioned this new FWA product during the company’s Q4 earnings call today but provided few details. He said that AT&T will offer FWA in areas where it doesn’t currently have fiber deployed such as less densely populated markets. Read More

Light Reading — Dish Network wants to purchase a sizable chunk of 800MHz spectrum from T-Mobile. “As Dish continues to deploy and increase coverage with this first-of-its-kind network, it will expand the availability of competitive services offered to both consumer and business customers,” Dish told the FCC in a filing related to the transaction. “Dish believes the 800MHz spectrum remains an important component of its ability to provide facilities-based competition in the wireless market,” Dish wrote in response to questions from Light Reading. Inside Towers — T-Mobile has more work to do. Yesterday’s announcement that its mid-band 2.5 GHz 5G Ultra Capacity service now reaches 300 million people is a milestone, Inside Towers reported. The company already covers 98 percent of the U.S. population with its low-band 600 MHz 5G Extended Reach service. At the end of 3Q23, T-Mobile reported wireless service revenues of $15.7 billion, up three percent on a year-over-year basis.
