RCR Wireless News – The head of the FCC reminded Congress again last week that the $1.9 billion Congress appropriated for the “rip and replace” program targeting the removal of some Chinese vendors’ equipment from domestic networks is drastically insufficient. Without more money, the FCC will only pay prioritized carriers who qualify for the program about 40 cents on the dollar, compared to what they’ve actually requested. Read More

Light Reading – Verizon CTO Ed Chan said the operator plans to speed up its small cell buildout starting in 2023. His comments, made to financial analysts at Wells Fargo, come after the small cell market in the US took a breather during 2021 as big network operators focused on building out their new midband spectrum holdings via bigger, macro cell sites.
