Agreement Reached to Expand Tower Compounds
WIA spearheaded a multi-year effort that led to a groundbreaking agreement among the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP), and the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers (NCSHPO) to promote 5G deployment through compound expansion. This agreement harmonizes historic preservation rules by allowing projects with compound expansions of up to 30 feet in any direction to qualify for an exemption under the Nationwide Programmatic Agreement for the Collocation of Wireless Antennas (Collocation NPA), obviating the need for historic review to upgrade networks with new equipment at existing tower sites.
