As the year comes to a close, WIA would like to wish our members and fellow professionals in the wireless industry a safe and happy holiday season. Fierce Wireless – Dish Wireless is asking the FCC for permission to conduct field experiments to evaluate high power Citizens Broadband Radio Service operations and its impact on current operations in the band. The application is notable given that Dish was the second largest bidder in the CBRS auction in 2020 and has been lobbying for a higher power level for the band. Read More

Light Reading – On Halloween, the shareholders of CONX voted on whether to allow Charlie Ergen more time to negotiate the sale of Dish’s wireless retail business from one of his companies to another. But that’s just one obstacle of many that Ergen must overcome in order to pull off the tricky transaction. He may also need to find more funding as well as regulatory approval. Read More

Inside Towers – In the TowerXchange session, Beyond Towers: Investing in New Digital Infrastructure, panelists discussed ways their companies are growing in adjacent businesses. Although the returns might not be as good as the tower business model, panelists agreed that the opportunities strengthen their financial position and further solidify their MNO relationships.
