WIA Awards to Honor Wireless Workforce Champions on Oct. 1

The WIA Awards will take place Oct. 1, 2019 at the new Conrad hotel in Washington, D.C. The event will celebrate industry, congressional, and administration leaders in support of enabling a workforce capable of building America’s next-generation wireless networks. FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr will be honored. Additional awardees will be announced. Hosted by the Wireless Infrastructure Association Foundation, proceeds from this event will benefit wireless education, training, and apprenticeship programs. State Small Cell Bill Update

WIA President & CEO Encourages PA to Act
Jonathan Adelstein published an op-ed in the Philadelphia Inquirer. He encouraged the state legislature to adopt small cell legislation in Pennsylvania, which would make it the 29th state to join the country in being 5G-ready through modernized small cell laws.

28 States + Puerto Rico Enact Small Cell Legislation
|
|
Over the past month, Puerto Rico, Wisconsin, and Connecticut have successfully enacted legislation to expedite the deployment of small cells and 5G. To date, 28 states, plus Puerto Rico, have adopted small cell legislation, and WIA continues to work toward small cell deployment throughout the nation to enable next-generation wireless services.

Multiple Tenant Environments

Compound Expansion
WIA is drafting a Petition for Declaratory Ruling to address WIA’s proactive agenda on the application of Sec. 6409 and a Petition for Rulemaking. This petition will ask the FCC to update its rules to ensure that collocations requiring limited compound expansions qualify for relief under Section 6409(a) and the FCC’s implementing regulations. WIA will continue to actively work on this issue.

TOWER Act
