Fierce Network – It’s been a bit of a busy week for Verizon. Just days after announcing a surprise CEO transition, the operator is doubling down on fixed wireless access (FWA) growth by acquiring Starry for an undisclosed sum. The operator said it will leverage Starry’s millimeter wave technology and market presence to bring high-speed internet to more multi-dwelling units (MDUs) and urban communities. Read More

Inside Towers – There is currently a total of 139,940 towers in the U.S. that are classified as registered and constructed, according to the Inside Towers Database. The tally does not count unregistered towers or those still in development. It turns out that almost two-thirds, 63 percent, are in just two regions. Inside Towers – New tower construction in the U.S. remained active throughout 2024, from January through early December. A total of 1,833 new towers were built during the year. For the year, the private tower companies built 990 towers, accounting for 54 percent of all new tower construction. Read More

Investing.com – Crown Castle International announced its shift to becoming a pure-play U.S. tower company, following a planned divestiture of its fiber and small cell business. While this move aims to capitalize on growing wireless data demand, it also involves significant financial restructuring, including debt reduction and share repurchases. Read More

ISE – Over the past decade, the permitting process for towers has been greatly improved, supported by the regulatory actions taken by the FCC. However, recent court rules make any federal-level agency actions less certain, and the process of obtaining permits for new towers and colocating equipment on existing towers continues to face challenges within some jurisdictions.
