WIA – The Wireless Infrastructure Association has been selected to receive $29.9 million in funding through a US. Department of Labor (DOL) cooperative agreement designed to help employers establish and maintain registered apprenticeship programs. The award will enable WIA to provide participating employers with pay-for-performance incentives that support the development, expansion, and long-term success of apprenticeship programs across the telecommunications industry. Fierce Network – More than 170 lawsuits have been filed against Dish by tower companies and other parties tied to the decommissioning of its 5G network. Plenty of gear remains on structures across the country. According to Dish’s bankruptcy court filing, it deployed more than 144,000 radios across more than 24,000 tower sites across the country. Data Center Dynamics – T-Mobile announced an executive reshuffle, as the company’s chief business and product officer, Mike Katz, confirmed he will depart the carrier later this year. As part of the rejig, the carrier also revealed that former AT&T veteran Chris Sambar will join the company as chief enterprise officer later this year. The changes come nine months after Srini Gopalan took over as CEO at the carrier. Read More

Fierce Network – Five years after the passage of the $42.5 billion BEAD program, the country has precious little to show for it. During a Congressional hearing, NTIA chief Arielle Roth said just two states thus far have connected citizens using BEAD money – and a number of other states, including California, are still awaiting for final approval of their program proposals. Inside Towers – FCC officials say the agency is preparing to vote on ways to modernize space and earth station licensing and establish the rules for next year’s upper C-band auction. Both items are on the agenda for the Commission’s July 22 meeting. The rules would effectively create a single “super-band” spanning 440 MHz. Read More
