The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s (MBTA) Distributed Antenna System (DAS) network, first deployed in 2005, provides cellular coverage across more than 20 miles of subterranean tunnels that link more than 40 stations. With the goal of improving public safety and rider experience, American Tower worked with the MBTA to modernize its DAS infrastructure by replacing legacy equipment and enabling 5G capabilities.
