Community College Improves Cellular Coverage for Safety in Classrooms

Case Study: Higher Education

A community college system was experiencing one of the most frustrating challenges of modern enterprise networking: Spotty and even nonexistent cellular coverage in many of its classroom buildings, which are located throughout a large southern U.S. state. For students, it’s frustrating at best and unsafe at critical times. If a medical emergency arose, how would someone dial 911? The school needed a manageable way to improve and extend public cellular networks further into the depths of its buildings.

This community college organization began deploying Ericsson Enterprise 5G Coverage, with the Radio Dot System, in its large, multi-classroom buildings. It’s a neutral host solution that provides public 5G coverage for all major U.S. network operators through the same infrastructure. This solution requires much less hardware, cabling, and power — and is much easier to deploy and manage — than a traditional Distributed Antenna System (DAS).
