PCIA Statement on FAA’s Efforts to Streamline Outage Reports

December 9, 2014 / Alexandria, VA – Jonathan Adelstein, President & Chief Executive Officer of PCIA – The Wireless Infrastructure Association, released the following statement regarding the announcement that the Federal Aviation Administration plans to streamline its Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) lighting outage reporting process to allow tower owners to self-select how much time is needed to complete repairs:

“PCIA is pleased that the FAA and FCC continue to find ways to streamline tower lighting outage reporting requirements consistent with our recommendations.  PCIA has long advocated for common sense reforms to the NOTAM system and led an industry coalition to transition to electronic outage notifications.  These helpful changes will reduce administrative burdens on tower operators and agency staff by crafting practical solutions for lighting outage repair notification.  The wireless infrastructure industry remains vigilant and will continue partnering with federal, state, and local officials to enhance aviation safety and ensure that our facilities are clearly and adequately marked.”
