Web-Based Wireless Workforce Training Scheduled for Wednesdays this Fall

But before the industry can begin building the wireless networks of the future, all industry related occupations need results-driven training to obtain the skills they need to understand the emerging technologies and applications of the wireless ecosystem, such as the nuances of small cells, distributed antenna systems, macro cells and 5G technology. Essential skillsets for 5G include understanding the new radio network, core network, backhaul techniques, densification requirements and new spectrum coming to the market.

Finding individuals trained and skilled in all of these areas will be challenging. Industry experts report that almost 40 percent of companies currently have difficulty filling positions because applicants lack specific job-related skills, and that challenge is expected to increase as infrastructure investments create new jobs and more competition for skilled applicants.

Municipal employees, building owners, and real estate professionals will also benefit from training to understand the process and technologies involved in the deployment of new cell sites and DAS systems for smart cities and integrated, safe buildings.

The Telecommunications Education Center (TEC) is working to increase the pool of skilled employees by offering comprehensive training and education courses designed to teach the skills that will be needed as wireless networks evolve to 5G. TEC is a learning portal devoted to improving education, safety, and quality within the telecommunications industry. It was created by the Wireless Infrastructure Association (WIA) with significant contributions from its members, partners, subject matter experts, and academia.

This fall, TEC is offering an excellent opportunity for industry stakeholders to get their workers up to speed on the skillsets that will be needed for 5G. Typically taught in a classroom setting, these courses are now offered through a professional development series conveniently available via webinar on Wednesday afternoons. The Workforce Wednesdays series includes five courses:

October 24: Wireless 101

November 28: DAS & Small Cell Basics

December 5: Macro Site Fundamentals

December 12: 5G Outlook

December 19: 5G Technologies

Courses can be purchased individually or at a discounted rate for the entire series. Discounts are also available for groups of five or more. Upon completion, students will receive TEC Certification that ensures core competencies and on-the-job proficiency.
