WIA Applauds Congress for Prioritizing Wireless Innovation in the Inflation Reduction Act

Today, the House passed H.R. 5376, the Inflation Reduction Act. Consistent with last week’s Senate vote, the bill included important language to avoid what would have amounted to a 15 percent tax on the spectrum licenses needed to deploy America’s 5G networks. WIA urged such action earlier this year.

ARLINGTON, Va. – Please attribute the following statement to WIA President and CEO, Patrick Halley.

“WIA applauds Congress for prioritizing America’s 5G leadership in the Inflation Reduction Act by continuing tax policies that have stimulated billions of dollars of investment in America’s wireless networks. Companies that acquire spectrum licenses do so at a high cost. By avoiding what would have amounted to a 15% tax on wireless broadband deployment, Congress is ensuring that more capital will remain available for investment in next generation wireless infrastructure.”
