Giving Back Where We Gathered: WIA Volunteers with Feeding South Florida

By Marta Sokol, Chief Financial Officer, WIA

Each year, Connect (X) brings together the leaders shaping the future of connectivity—innovators, policymakers, and infrastructure providers driving the networks that keep our world connected. This year, as we convened in Fort Lauderdale, we were reminded that strong communities are built not only through infrastructure, but through service.

That’s why WIA staff took time during Connect (X) to give back to the very community that hosted us—volunteering with Feeding South Florida, the region’s leading hunger-relief organization.

Supporting the Community Beyond the Conference

While Connect (X) focuses on advancing wireless innovation, our time with Feeding South Florida highlighted another critical network: the one that ensures families have consistent access to nutritious food.

Feeding South Florida operates as the largest nonprofit provider of produce in the state, prioritizing access to fresh, healthy food for families in need. During our volunteer shift, WIA staff worked alongside their team to sort food, directly supporting programs that make a tangible difference across South Florida.

In addition to volunteering, the WIA Foundation proudly donated $10,000 to support Feeding South Florida’s efforts—helping expand access to nutritious food and strengthen the organization’s ability to serve families across the region.

Connecting Infrastructure and Community Impact

At WIA, we often talk about the importance of connectivity—building networks that power economic growth, innovation, and opportunity. But true connectivity goes beyond infrastructure. It’s about strengthening the communities where we live, work, and gather.

Our time volunteering served as a powerful reminder that industry leadership also means showing up for those in need—supporting local organizations, giving back, and helping address the challenges communities face every day.

A Lasting Impression from Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale was more than just the host of Connect (X) 2026—it was a partner in our experience. The city welcomed our industry, and in return, we were proud to contribute in a meaningful way.

We’re grateful to Feeding South Florida for the incredible work they do and for the opportunity to be part of it, even for a day. As we look ahead to future Connect (X) events, we remain committed to finding ways to give back to the communities that host us—because stronger communities and stronger networks go hand in hand.
