WIA Joins the National Spectrum Consortium to Advance 5G Implementation

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Wireless Infrastructure Association (WIA) is pleased to announce that it has joined the National Spectrum Consortium (NSC) to increase industry collaboration on the research and development of 5G and 5G-based technologies.

“In order to effectively address our country’s most pressing needs for wireless infrastructure, we must deliver unified solutions. WIA is looking forward to working with the Consortium to transform communications and bring next generation technology to our defense sector and communities across the U.S.,” said WIA CTO Dr. Rikin Thakker.

“We are thrilled to welcome the Wireless Infrastructure Association (WIA) to the National Spectrum Consortium,” said NSC Chair Lizy Paul. “The WIA brings broad and deep industry expertise to the table, especially related to the deployment and implementation of 5G and next generation of wireless technologies. The WIA will help us in our mission to build bridges between government, industry, and academia so that we can continue delivering technological breakthroughs for our nation.”

The National Spectrum Consortium is a collaborative research and development organization whose members incubate new technologies to revolutionize the way in which spectrum is accessed, shared, and utilized. Through collaboration among industry, academia, and government agencies, the National Spectrum Consortium supports the implementation of 5G, 5G-based technologies, and spectrum awareness, sharing, and use.

WIA is excited to offer its industry expertise and leadership in telecommunications workforce development to help the NSC solve the unique challenges facing 5G implementation.

About WIA:

The Wireless Infrastructure Association (WIA) represents the businesses that build, develop, own, and operate the nation’s wireless infrastructure. WIA advocates for the widespread, responsible deployment of wireless infrastructure to enable mobile broadband for communities everywhere.

About NSC:

U.S. economic and security interests require American leadership on advanced technologies that expand access to, increase the control of, and make use of the data that flows across the electromagnetic spectrum. To meet these objectives, the National Spectrum Consortium (NSC) and its more than 400 members build bridges between key stakeholder groups — government and industry; industry stalwarts and startups; and civilian and military suppliers and users — to deliver two essential outcomes: breakthroughs in spectrum- and spectrum-using capabilities; and policy and regulatory insights to enhance, inform and sustain U.S. technical leadership. NSC members develop prototypes via the easy-to-use, highly flexible, $2.5 billion contracting instrument known as the Spectrum Forward Other Transaction Agreement (OTA).
