WIA Praises $9B for Rural Connectivity Funds

October 27, 2020

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Wireless Infrastructure Association (WIA) praises the Federal Communication Commission’s (FCC) decision to distribute up to $9 billion in connectivity funds to rural America through the Universal Service Fund.

“This decision will be another step closer, as part of the FCC’s 5G FAST Plan, to ensuring that Americans in rural areas can enjoy the same benefits from the digital economy as residents and employees of urban areas. One of the biggest barriers to wireless infrastructure deployment is cost, and this funding will lower that barrier for build-out,” said WIA President and CEO Jonathan Adelstein. “Americans across the country should be able to harness the benefits and opportunities of next-generation wireless networks, regardless of their zip code. WIA thanks the FCC’s Commissioners for their diligent work to streamline wireless infrastructure deployment.”
